Senator Ed Markey hosted a forum on Tuesday night, January 22nd, to discuss President Trump's first day in office. The forum featured leaders for communities being targeted by President Trump and his administration. The conversation centered on what you can do to aid during these extremely difficult times.
The virtual forum took place when our elected representatives were voting on Pete Hegseth, Trump's Secretary of Defense nominee. Senator Markey had to leave the forum to vote against it, while Senator Warren returned after voting against Trump's choice. Congresswoman Pressley, Attorney General Campbell, and Mayor Wu joined the forum to provide guests with updates on what their offices are doing to ensure the safety of all Massachusetts residents.
The most important aspect of the forum for me was hearing from community leaders who represent underrepresented groups targeted by the Trump administration. The Forum featured presentations by Mass AFL-CIO President Chrissy Lynch, Reproductive Equity Now President Rebecca Hart Holder, City of Boston Poet Laureate Porsha Olayiwola, MIRA Coalition Executive Director Liz Sweet, MassEquality Executive Director Tanya Neslusan, and ACLU of Massachusetts Executive Director Carol Rose. It was an excellent forum that will motivate you to take action.
